Northwood University’s next ‘Heavy Duty Leadership’ class scheduled for July of 2015

Jan. 30, 2015
Now in its fourth year, Heavy Duty Leadership is open to any early- to mid-career management-track professional in the commercial vehicle aftermarket.

The University of the Aftermarket’s comprehensive leadership development program, Heavy Duty Leadership, will be offered again in 2015. The next class will be held July 12-17, 2015, on Northwood University’s campus in Midland, Mich.

Now in its fourth year, Heavy Duty Leadership is open to any early- to mid-career management-track professional in the commercial vehicle aftermarket. The program’s curriculum is designed to foster the development of the next generation of heavy-duty parts distribution, manufacturing, service, association, and fleet management professionals.

“This program grew out of a real need in the industry,” explained University of the Aftermarket Director Brian Cruickshank. “The industry simply did not have a formal leadership-development program for its leaders of tomorrow. This unique program brings together the next generation of industry leaders for a week of university-level business, management and leadership education, all with a commercial vehicle industry focus.”

Heavy Duty Leadership will be taught by heavy-duty industry leaders in collaboration with faculty from Northwood University’s DeVos Graduate School of Management and the University of the Aftermarket. Areas of study will include:

  • Ÿ Global competition
  • Ÿ Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Ÿ Industry supply chain trends and challenges
  • Ÿ Team management and development
  • Ÿ Strategic management
  • Ÿ Developing business strategy in multi-channel markets
  • Ÿ Industry case studies
  • Ÿ Leadership
  • Ÿ Networking -
    • Top guest speakers from the commercial vehicle aftermarket
    • Business skills, such as accounting and finance

The curriculum features a blend of industry analysis, discussion and debate of new challenges and competitive strategies, individual skills training in team management, leadership roles, strategic thinking and planning, and more.

Program tuition ($2,995) includes all instruction, materials and meals. Affordable and convenient on-campus housing is available. Those who are interested in attending the program are encouraged to contact the University of the Aftermarket as early as possible, as class size is limited and last year’s class was sold out early. Participants will receive 3.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be applied toward industry education certificates.
