Atlas Van Lines adopts hours-of-service application to automate driver logs and help ensure compliance ahead of ELD mandate.

Omnitracs, LLC, a leading provider of fleet management solutions to transportation and logistics companies, announced that leading household goods mover Atlas Van Lines has deployed Omnitracs’ Mobile Computing Platform 50 (MCP50) and suite of applications across its fleet to help meet its fleet safety and regulatory compliance goals.

With Omnitracs’ Hours-of-Service (HOS) application Atlas Van Lines can track its drivers’ hours in near real-time, leading to more efficient fleet management, increased reporting accuracy and improved compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.

Recognized worldwide for its household and corporate relocation and logistics services, Atlas Van Lines is proactively preparing its fleet for the expected federally mandated Electronic Logging Device (ELD) regulation. Having previously adopted the legacy OmniTRACS mobile information system to enhance information exchange between drivers and back-office staff and Omnitracs Trailer Tracks to optimize asset management, Atlas Van Lines chose Omnitracs once again when seeking to upgrade its operations and eliminate the use of paper log books. Omnitracs’ HOS application allows drivers to switch between multiple operating authorities and this feature was among the critical factors contributing to Atlas’ selection of Omnitracs over other ELD providers.

In the face of increasing regulations, ELDs continue to play a critical role in helping fleets manage compliance by automating the maintenance and management of hours of service logs. In addition to helping to improve driver safety and compliance, Omnitracs’ MCP50 can also help fleets reduce costs and improve efficiency, customer satisfaction and even driver morale. Omnitracs’ MCP50 is compliant with FMCSA hours of service regulations, aids to eliminate human error while maximizing available driving hours and reducing the labor related to keeping manual logs.

“Omnitracs MCP50 is the right mobile solution to fit Atlas Van Lines’ unique needs based on our varied services across the country,” said Jeff Schimmel, vice president of transportation services at Atlas Van Lines. “It’s extremely important that our drivers deliver cargo safely and efficiently within the scope of the new ELD mandates, and the MCP50 — coupled with the HOS application — will help us achieve these goals while managing our compliance efforts much more easily.”

“As a trusted technology partner of Atlas Van Lines for many years, we’re pleased that we can continue to support the company in its efforts to ensure compliance with ELD requirements,” said David Vice, chief sales officer at Omnitracs. “Omnitracs’ MCP50 delivers the right combination of safety and operational efficiency applications to help Atlas realize benefits beyond ELD compliance in areas such as fuel management and asset visibility.”
