Bendix TABS-6 Advanced Single Channel trailer roll stability system will be included as standard equipment on all Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company 3000R base model refrigerated trailers, beginning with orders received in January of 2015. The specification further strengthens the relationship and commitment to safety by both Utility and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, the North American leader in the development and manufacture of active safety and braking system technologies.

Utility, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2014, is the industry’s largest manufacturer of refrigerated trailers, as well as the oldest privately-owned, family-operated trailer manufacturer in the United States. Headquartered in City of Industry, Calif., the company designs and builds dry freight vans, flatbeds, refrigerated vans, curtain-sided trailers and side skirts at five facilities across the country.

“We share a commitment with Bendix to improve safety for our customers and everyone on the highways, and trailer roll stability is a proven technology for reaching that goal,” said Craig Bennett, Utility senior vice president, sales and marketing. “By integrating these systems as standard components on our base model refrigerated trailers, we offer fleets and drivers another effective and efficient tool for enhancing safety.”

Other Bendix technologies available on Utility trailers include the Bendix EverSure Spring Brake with the No Touch Power Spring, and the Bendix ADB22X air disc brake.

The Bendix TABS-6 Advanced trailer roll stability system combines antilock braking (ABS) with sensors to monitor stability, quickly and automatically trigger braking interventions when conditions that may lead to a rollover are detected.

Available in single-channel (SC) and multi-channel (MC) configurations, TABS-6 Advanced is compatible with both spring-ride and air-ride suspensions, and delivers solutions suitable for a wide range of fleet needs. The Bendix TABS-6 Advanced system can work with a variety of trailer electrical requirements, handling between 8V and 32V without a separate power converter.

Among the Utility customers equipping Bendix systems is Prime Inc., which recently ordered 2,500 new refrigerated trailers with the Bendix ADB22X and the Bendix TABS-6 Advanced trailer roll stability system.

“We’re very pleased to continue building on the partnership Bendix has with Utility Trailer Manufacturing, and are proud to support their strong commitment to safety,” said TJ Thomas, Bendix director of customer solutions – Controls group. “Even the most advanced technology won’t replace the need for skilled, well-trained drivers practicing safe driving habits, or reduce the importance of continuous and comprehensive driver training, but these systems can play a key part in improving highway safety for all fleets and drivers on the road.”
