Peterbilt introduces mid-length Model 579

April 2, 2013
The vehicle boasts a 117" BBC hood and a 80" sleeper cab.

Peterbilt Motors Company announced the addition of a mid-length BBC configuration to the all-new Model 579 product line up. The new lightweight 117" BBC design offers excellent maneuverability and outstanding visibility while maintaining the Model 579's exceptional aerodynamic characteristics.

"The Model 579 improves customers' bottom lines through higher reliability, better fuel economy, increased driver retention, and enhanced resale value," said Bill Kozek, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president. "The new mid-length BBC Model 579 configuration offers additional weight reduction and performance advantages with the standard PACCAR MX-13 engine as the perfect powertrain complement. This combination of performance attributes optimizes the vehicle for weight sensitive customers, such as regional and bulk haul applications."

The new mid-length Model 579 can be configured as a day cab or with the full range of detachable Peterbilt sleepers. The 117" BBC hood features a durable, low-cost-of-repair 3-piece design. In addition, the signature Peterbilt stainless steel grille and chromed surround not only provide long-lasting appearance, but is designed to protect the cooling module from road debris.

Another feature the vehicle boasts is an 80" sleeper, which represents the largest sleeper in Peterbilt's history and was designed for customers requiring fuel-efficiency, vehicle quality, and amenities to support operator needs.

"The Model 579 product breadth continues to expand to serve the needs of customers across market segments, with varying length of hauls and unique driver requirements," said Kozek. "The new 80" sleeper further enhances the versatility of the Model 579, providing the space, storage and amenities necessary to provide drivers an office and rest environment."

The new 80" sleeper has a 42" bunk, spacious tower storage cabinets, and LED lighting. It is fully detachable for enhanced resale value and increased versatility in second- and third-life operations. Peterbilt's refined sleeper line complements the quality, ergonomics, fit and finish characteristics of the Model 579.

Additional important features of the 80" sleeper include its microwave shelf with power outlet, coffee maker cabinet, oversized cup holders, convenient upper side and back wall cabinets, full-length sleeper access door with optional window, liftable bunk for additional storage and service access to HVAC and audio components, optimally placed HVAC vents and a optional mid-height refrigerator, among other options.

In addition to the new 80" sleeper, the Model 579 is also available with a 72" sleeper and a new 44" low roof sleeper introduced earlier this year. The detachable 44" sleeper provides easy bunk access for customers looking for outstanding comfort in a smaller package, saving weight and reducing wheelbase requirements.

The 117" BBC Model 579 will be available with the 2013 PACCAR MX-13 engine June 2013.
