EPA announces new standards for renewable fuel

Voluntary quality assurance program to verify Renewable Identification Numbers.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a proposal to establish a voluntary quality assurance program for verifying the validity of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program.

EPA is proposing the volume requirements and associated percentage standards that would apply under the RFS2 program in calendar year 2013 for cellulosic biofuel, biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel. The proposed standards would ensure that transportation fuel sold in the U.S. contains a minimum volume of renewable fuel as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.
