Firestone Industrial Products is showcasing next-generation air spring technologies, including lighter-weight components and the revolutionary Airide Integrative Air-Damping System. The company is also highlighting significant milestones in the evolution of air spring technology, which was originally developed by Firestone Industrial Products 75 years ago.

"Firestone Industrial Products has a proven track record in manufacturing qualit yair springs that improve driver comfort, protect cargo and provide miles of trouble-free service," said John Vincent, president at Firestone Industrial Products. "Through new product innovations and a solid global presence, we look forward to bringing the benefits of air spring technology to the heavy duty trucking industry for many years to come.

"Firestone Industrial Products' most recent innovation, the Airide Integrative Air-Damping System, offers an effective, lighter-weight alternative to cab mount suspension applications, providing the functionality of an air spring and shock absorber in a single part. The system is comprised of an exterior bellow made of natural rubber that encompasses a proprietary, shock-absorbing module. Preliminary testing indicates a notable reduction in the transmission and frequency of vibration when compared to traditional air spring/shock absorber or air spring/hydraulic damper configurations.

"The Airide Integrative Air-Damping System has the potential for an unprecedented level of comfort that significantly reduces driver fatigue," added Vincent. "Also, since the system reduces vibration inputs in the cab structure, there is less strenuous wear-and-tear on cab mounting points, ensuring long-lasting, dependable performance.

"Firestone Industrial Products is also taking steps to help reduce overall vehicle weight — a key factor in maximizing fuel efficiency — through lighter-weight, primary air spring options. These next-generation air springs offer weight reductions of up to three pounds per spring."

While much of the Firestone Industrial Product exhibit is focused on forward thinking technology, the company is also commemorating its tradition of innovation. Key milestones include the development of the first air spring, rail-specific air springs, ultrasonic internal height sensors and aftermarket air springs for light duty trucks and vehicles. Over the years, Firestone Industrial Products also has expanded its presence from North America to include offices and manufacturing operations on four continents.
