Bergstrom Inc., a global leader in the design and supply of climate systems to the commercial vehicle industry, recently celebrated the production of its 30,000th NITE no-idle system. This milestone has resulted in fuel savings of approximately 113.7 million gallons per year, which is roughly the equivalent of the volume of water that flows over Niagara Falls every 2.5 minutes.

The 30,000th unit – a NITE Phoenix no-idle system – was manufactured on the company's newest assembly line. The new assembly line incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, such as MicroFlow system leak detection and Human Machine Interface (HMI) monitors that display ProE CAD models and standardized work instructions for all NITE models produced on the line.

The high tech assembly line also features an increased level of automation with quality assurance devices that communicate with the HMI, ensuring the highest possible quality standards. In addition, the assembly line provides higher capacity to meet increasing demand for the aftermarket and factory installed NITE Phoenix product.

The new line will also produce a version of the NITE Phoenix for factory-installed use at a major North American truck OEM.

"The demand for our NITE no-idle systems has increased dramatically over the past year. It was only in May of 2011 that we celebrated the production of our 20,000th unit – that's 10,000 units in less than 10 months," said Bill Gordon, vice president, aftermarket and NITE sales. "Our dedicated team is very proud of this milestone and our contributions towards reducing harmful emissions and improving driver comfort on the road."

In production since 2003, the NITE no-idle system has become the undisputed leader in battery-operated systems that are both factory installed and aftermarket units. The system helps drivers all across the world remain comfortable while adhering to anti-idling regulation. In addition to the NITE Phoenix, Bergstrom also manufactures its signature NITE Plus and NITE Day Cab units, as well as a number of private-label no-idle systems

As a battery-powered system, the NITE solution can reduce the average truck's fuel usage by as much as 3,790 gallons a year, and save the owner more than $15,161 per truck, per year in reduced fuel costs and maintenance, based on diesel prices of $3.95 per gallon, 6-cylinder engine, 1,000 idling RPM, 8 idling hours per day, 300 days per year. With the production of the 30,000th unit, NITE system users are now saving a total of 113.7 million gallons of fuel per year. That is equivalent to roughly 2.7 million barrels of fuel, or roughly 12,633 gasoline tanker trucks filled with fuel.
