The Engine Repower Council to host engine rebuild demo at AAPEX

For the second year, the Engine Repower Council (ERC), a segment of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), will host the engine rebuild demo at the 2011 Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 1-3. Live rebuilding of a Chevrolet R07 NASCAR Spring Cup engine will take place at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at booth #4081 in the Sands Expo Center.

Co-sponsored by ERC and MAHLE Clevite Inc., and endorsed by the Production Engine Remanufacturers Association (PERA) and the AERA Engine Builders Association, the demo features two Hendrick Motorsports engine builders using only hand tools to put every part of the engine together in less than 20 minutes. Attendees get a first-hand look at the precision needed to rebuild an engine – all at a rapid pace. Time for questions and pictures will be scheduled at the conclusion of each engine assembly demo.

At the booth, ERC will also display the additional parts sales generated when the sale and installation of a rebuilt/remanufactured engine is made. Parts wholesalers/retailers can generate an estimated $347 worth of additional parts with every rebuilt/remanufactured engine sale and installation.

“Engine parts wholesalers and retailers don’t realize how much money they are leaving on the table by ignoring the engine rebuilding market,” said Steve Rich, ERC board member. “Every time a vehicle owner installs a junkyard engine they’ve lost the parts sales that go into a rebuilt/remanufactured engine, as well as all of the additional ancillary parts involved with a proper installation.”
