NetraDyne, a San Diego, Calif.-based provider of artificial intelligence solutions, recently announced the launch of driver-i, a vision-based platform designed to enhance driver safety in the commercial vehicle industry.

The platform serves to identify, recognize and reward positive commercial vehicle operator performance by giving fleet personnel a clear, accurate and comprehensive view of daily events on the road.

“It offers the ability to have a more complete view, to understand the drivers’ good driving and coachable moments,” says Adam Kahn, vice president, fleet business, NetraDyne. “It also offers a better sense of causality and of what happens.”

According to the company, driver-i captures every moment and aspect of the driving experience, as opposed to a small sample of time. This, company officials say, delivers stronger value to each driver, fleet manager, and the overall operational bottom line.

An end-to-end Internet of Things (IoT) platform, driver-i is composed of both an intelligent mobile video analytics device and a cloud-based fleet safety management center. Capabilities include the following:

  • A dedicated Artificial Intelligence Deep Learning TeraFLOP processor
  • A patent-pending four-camera video system that offers a driver’s perspective with a 360-degree Quad-HD field of view
  • A high-data bandwith, low latency 4G LTE cellular module with a global coverage footprint

According to the company, the driver-i platform is designed to provide complete visibility into a fleet. Through the application of artificial intelligence technology, the system works to identify and detect images throughout each route and quickly analyzes their impact on the driver's workday.

“An event loses a lot of impact with time,” says Kahn. “If I can have a conversation at the end of the day about an event, or specifically midday, where I can intervene into a driver and maybe reset his or her day to avoid a more significant event, that is very impactful to a fleet’s bottom line in a number of ways.”

Fleet managers are also provided additional tools that build strong working relationships with drivers, helping to stabilize fleets and positively affect their bottom lines. The driver-i's proprietary GreenZone Driver Score allows fleets the ability to see how drivers are tracking against team safety programs and goals. This view offers visibility into positive driving activity, events that were caused by third parties, and notification of at-risk conditions. The fleet manager can then step in before those events become severe. The GreenZone utility also offers performance-based push notifications so fleet managers can pass along positive feedback and rewards for excellent driving practices.

"We believe that vision-based solutions are revolutionizing driver analytics by individualizing the driver, leveraging their strengths and identifying best practices," said Avneesh Agrawal, co-founder and CEO. "The driver-i platform protects commercial vehicle drivers, which are a fleet's most valuable asset.  Our solution fosters collaboration, recognition, and retention; all of which have a positive influence on a fleet's bottom line."
