Bridgestone Retail Operations names ASE Master Technician of the Year

Technician honored for outstanding achievements

Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO), which operates the largest network of company-owned automotive service providers in the world, and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), have named Steve Nessman the BSRO/ASE Master Technician of the Year for 2010.

Nessman was selected based on his exemplary work ethic, technical capabilities, individual achievements and his commitment to customers and fellow teammates.

“Because of his professional conduct and exceptional accomplishments, Steve Nessman epitomizes our brand promise, ‘a Promise to Care,’” said Matt Hoskins, chief operating officer for BSRO. “We are proud to have Steve represent BSRO as the BSRO/ASE Master Technician of the Year.”

Nessman, a 28 year BSRO veteran, serves as lead technician at the Lakeside store in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Nessman also acts as a technical trainer within the Oklahoma district. He is responsible for teaching, mentoring and developing young technicians through training sessions.

Nessman earned his first ASE certification in 1979 and attained ASE Master Automotive status in 1993, which he has maintained since.

At the inception of ASE L1 certification in 1994, Nessman was among the first group of technicians in the industry to achieve this certification. ASE L1 certification is the single most difficult automotive ASE certification to obtain, and requires extensive knowledge in drivability and engine management.

In addition, Nessman is actively involved in his community. He has served on the Putnam City High School Booster Club for several years. His fundraising efforts for the school have been critical in acquiring newer, safer equipment for its student-athletes.

“We congratulate Steve for his outstanding achievement,” said Tim Zilke, ASE president & CEO. “With nearly 400,000 ASE-certified professionals throughout the country, the award is particularly designed to highlight excellence and to recognize those whose dedication, commitment and professionalism represents the best our industry has to offer.”

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972 as a non-profit organization to help improve the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive technicians and parts specialists.

Bridgestone Retail Operations operates the largest network of company-owned automotive service providers in the world - nearly 2,200 tire and vehicle service centers across the United States - including Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works store locations.
