Daimler Trucks North America unveiled TruckerNet, a new mobile application for smartphones, at the 2011 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Ky. With the TruckerNet app on a GPS-enabled smartphone, drivers can access service locations, parts information and connect to on-call breakdown assistance services.
"The adoption of web-enabled phones has skyrocketed in our industry over the last few years as everyone from owner-operators to fleet drivers look for better ways to share information and stay connected,” said Daniel Haggerty, director of parts marketing for Daimler Trucks North America LLC. “We’re leveraging that technology to help drivers on the road with better information and access to the parts and service they need."
By using GPS location services, or alternatively, by entering a ZIP code or city name, TruckerNet will feature a service location finder and parts specials. Drivers will also have the ability to access immediate breakdown service support with connections to the Excelerator breakdown assistance service through the app’s one-touch interface.

As more drivers adopt Internet tools, smart phones and tablets as part of their daily life on the road, we’ll be ready with smart tools that help get the job done, said Haggerty."
The TruckerNet smartphone app is available for iPhone through Apple’s iTunes App Store and for Android system phones at the Android Market, beginning March 31. A version for RIM Blackberry systems is planned for release in the late spring. Attendees at MATS are able to download the TruckerNet app directly from the show floor on their smartphones using a QR code.
