Adds Canadian distributor to supply second generation UnderTray System

SmartTruck, a new manufacturer of aerodynamic products for the trucking industry, has introduced the second generation of its UT-6 Trailer UnderTray System.

SmartTruck has begun production of the more durable and versatile redesigned version, which still delivers a fuel efficiency gain of more than 10 percent, according to test results.

“The pace at which the industry is embracing the Trailer UnderTray System encourages us to further develop the product and bring additional enhancements to the industry,” said Mitch Greenberg, president, SmartTruck. “This redesigned system provides greater durability and is much more adaptable to fit the wide range of trailer models on the road today, while still delivering outstanding fuel efficiency.”

SmartTruck has also added a Canadian distributor, Northern Aerodynamic Solutions, to further enable the Canadian market to benefit from the UnderTray System’s fuel efficiency. The distributor joins a number of U.S. distributors assisting SmartTruck in bringing the UnderTray System to the industry.

“As soon as we saw the UnderTray System and the fundamental difference between it and traditional aerodynamic devices, we wanted to be a part of bringing it to Canadian fleets,” said Dave Tyrchniwicz, president, Northern Aerodynamic Solutions. “Fleets and owner-operators, whether north or south of the border, can now take advantage of this new system and dramatically reduce the drag of their tractor-trailer and realize significant fuel savings.”

The new UT-6 UnderTray System includes redesigned components that are higher off the ground and allow the sled to be independent of the suspension system. The redesigned system also reduces the size of the rear diffuser, allowing the suspension system to travel to the full rearward position.

The redesigned components, along with a more universal hardware package, combine for easier installation on a wide range of trailer models, cutting installation time to less than two shop hours per system.

. Along with increased fuel efficiency, a secondary benefit of the UnderTray System is cooler operating temperatures around the brake, tire and wheel assemblies due to increased airflow under the trailer, said company officials.

Fleets currently using the SmartTruck UnderTray System include Con-way, Hirschbach Motor Lines and Turk Enterprises. Other fleets evaluating the SmartTruck system include Schneider, U.S. Xpress and Fremont Contract Carriers.
