TIMTC, U.S. DOT to sponsor webinar
On the Integrated Truck Program
Trucking industry stakeholders are invited to participate in a free webinar to learn more about U.S. DOT and industry related “Integrated Truck Program” activities.
These programs, initiated by both the public and private sectors, seek to wirelessly connect trucks to other vehicles and roadside systems to enhance mobility and safety for all roadway users.
Thousands of crashes could potentially be avoided each year by enabling vehicles to “talk” to each other and alert drivers of hazardous situations, say the DOT and Trucking Industry Mobility and Technology Coalition (TIMTC).
Additionally, these programs could significantly improve freight mobility and productivity by introducing innovative methods for operating existing transportation systems more efficiently based on new real-time data sources.
Webinar presentations will include an update on the U.S. DOT Smart Roadside Initiative; a fleet perspective of the benefits and difficulties of monitoring trucks and drivers in real-time; and an overview of several ongoing projects that promote truck connectivity through onboard technologies.
The webinar will feature: Tom Kearney, Freight Operations Program, Federal Highway Administration; Lance Hagler, Director of Safety, Con-way Freight; and Susan Alt, Vice President of Customer and Industry Relations, Mack and Volvo Trucks North America.
The Integrated Truck Program webinar is set for Thursday, August 25, 2011, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. EDT
Visit the TIMTC website at www.freightmobility.com to register for the free webinar.
