The Q&A

PTEN recently spoke with a Snap-on Tools product manager to get some additional details about the company's 12V Circuit Tester, No. EECT413.

PTEN: What are some important features and characteristics of the product?

Snap-on: The convenient kit in the carrying case is what customers desired. The backlit LED on this circuit tester indicates green for ground and red for power, and the LCD digital display makes it easy to detect DC voltage on 6V and 12V vehicles with a DC voltage value of the circuit. The safety-style shutter with banana jacks protect against accidental metal-to-metal contact. Plus, the EECT413 offers computer-safe draw and surge protected circuitry displays from 3 –19.99V DC. Customers really appreciate the foam organizer that includes a cut-out silhouette of the component. The part number, description and color are also printed in the cavity for proper organization and tool placement.

PTEN: Why was it developed?

Snap-on: Individual circuit testers and massive all-inclusive terminal tool kits exist in the marketplace. However, we filled a need in the middle. We selected the right-sized collection of the most common interchangeable tips that every shop desires and every tech would put in his or her toolbox.

PTEN: How does it improve on previous iterations of the company’s products?

Snap-on: The complete set in the lightweight carrying case can be retrieved quickly from the toolbox drawer and brought to the vehicle. The correct combination of interchangeable tips are accessible to complete the work.

PTEN: How does it help automotive technicians save time and/or make their jobs easier?

Snap-on: The EECT413 is a total testing solution for 12V electrical circuit analysis. This kit features various non-intrusive grabbers and clips, plus standard, micro and spade-style probes to fit the job. These options make it easy to operate the unit hands-free to jiggle wires, replace a fuse or operate a switch.  As previously described, bringing the complete kit to the vehicle saves time going back and forth to the toolbox.

PTEN: What types of jobs/applications does the tool work well for?

Snap-on: When a vehicle has an electrical problem, technicians have explained that the first tool they grab is a 12V circuit tester to begin probing for voltage at the fuse, wire, switch, motor, light, relay or other component. This tool kit allows for selecting the correct tip for each end to help diagnose the issue and replace only components that have failed.
