The Q&A

PTEN recently spoke with Autel to get some additional details about the MaxiSYS commercial vehicle diagnostics scan tool.

PTEN: What are some important features and characteristics of the product?

Autel: Like the rest of the MaxiSys line, the CV is an Android-based tablet tool. It uses a Bluetooth connection to a vehicle interface that enables the technician to perform diagnostics untethered from the vehicle's connector. The MS908CV uses Autel's intuitive, easy-to-use interface. It has software separated into truck manufacturers, bus manufacturers and an "Expert" mode, which features component or systems manufacturers for deeper diagnostics on systems including trailer brakes. Its interface is Autel's all-new, compact J2534 device, allowing deeper programming and parameter setting. It comes with one year of free updates, like all of Autel's MaxiSys line. The CV tool also has light and medium truck software, as well as HD. It comes with both the 6 and 9 pin Deutsch connectors, as well as a universal pin set and connector for trailer systems.

PTEN: Why was it developed?

Autel: With the success and popularity if the MaxiSys tools for automotive, Autel has received thousands of requests to develop a similar tool for the commercial vehicle or heavy duty market. We have had our engineers working for over a year to develop the software to meet this customer demand. The heavy duty repair shop and technician needed an affordable, high-quality diagnostic tool with full bidirectional and parameter setting abilities.

PTEN: How does it improve on previous iterations of the company’s products?

Autel: The MS908CV offers the same quality and capabilities Autel has been known for in automotive and light truck repair. However, this offering is built with the needs of the commercial vehicle market in mind.

PTEN: How does it help automotive technicians save time and do their jobs easier?

Autel: The MaxiSys CV or MS908CV gives the technician a single affordable diagnostic solution for working on Class 7 and 8 vehicles, as well as light and medium duty trucks. Its simple intuitive software interface and Android operating system make it quick and responsive to the technicians needs.

PTEN: What types of jobs/applications does the tool work well for?

Autel: Any shop working on trucks and buses (from Class 7 and 8 over-the-road trucks and city buses, to medium duty local trucks and even light duty service trucks). It is great for municipalities, school districts, bus barns, state facilities and fleets, as well as independent repair shops and dealers.

PTEN: Where can they find more information about Autel MaxiSYS?

Autel: Visit our website -- www.autel.com -- or your Autel distributor.
