A-Gas launches Honeywell's Low GWP refrigerant Solstice yf.

A-Gas, a U.K.-based, interntational supplier of refrigerants, has announced the U.K. launch of Honeywell’s new Low GWP refrigerant Solstice yf into the automotive aftermarket. Solstice yf has been designed as a low GWP solution for the changing requirements in legislation, facing the automotive industry.

A-Gas, in a press release, noted that the European directive 2006/40/EC, which went into effect in 2011, requires that all new car platforms for sale in Europe use a refrigerant in its air conditioning system with a GWP below 150.

From Jan. 1, 2017, all new cars within the European Union will need to meet this requirement, A-Gas noted. The phase-out of high GWP refrigerants will affect the entire automotive industry, from manufacturing to automotive servicing and repair, A-Gas noted.

Solstice yf brings a low environmental impact solution to the market and has a GWP of 4 which is 99.7 percent lower than R134a, A-Gas noted.

With cooling capacity equivalent to HFC-134a, a Solstice yf offers comparable performance in all climates whilst reducing the carbon footprint, the release noted. The operating characteristics of Solstice™yf are similar to R134a, which repair technicians are already familiar with, the release noted.

Solstice yf has low flammability, low toxicity and is noncorrosive.

Solstice yf is available through A-Gas distributors. For information, go to www.agas.com.
