Chevy Impala boasts worst-to-first turnaround in Consumer Reports' ratings

July 29, 2013
The fully redesigned 2014 Chevy Impala earns best sedan rating.

In the 2013 model year, the Chevy Impala faced a barrage of criticism and scrutiny from automotive review sites, bloggers and journalists. Now, the 2014 Chevy Impala is earning an equal amount of admiration and acclaim, as the fully redesigned sedan has landed atop Consumer Reports' list of top rated sedans with an overall score of 95.

The monumental turnaround is due to a complete reimagining of the full-size sedan. After earning a mediocre score of 63 in 2013, Consumer Reports has praised the 2014 Chevy Impala for its luxurious ride, smooth maneuvering, agility, and overall performance. Those elements combine to make the Impala one of the most impressive new sedans in the segment.

Perhaps more impressive than the Impala's worst to first reversal is its claim as the first American sedan to lead the segment in Consumer Reports ratings in at least 20 years, marking the beginning of what Jake Fischer, director of Consumer Reports automotive testing is calling, "an emerging domestic renaissance."

The Impala joins the eight-passenger 2014 Chevy Traverse as the first vehicles available from the 2014 Chevy lineup near Chicago, IL. With the significant redesign and newfound critical acclaim, the Impala has gone from a potential weak link in Chevy's lineup to an essential cog that is leading Chevy into the 2014 model year.

The 2014 Chevy Impala sports a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that helps the Impala reach an EPA-estimated 29 MPG on the highway. That engine propels the large sedan from 0-60 in less than seven seconds and heavily contributes to its confidence-inspiring performance.
