CNG fuel system inspections are one of the main elements contributing to NGV fleet safety. Additionally, regular inspections of all CNG fuel systems are required by law. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration stipulates that a detailed visual inspection of the entire CNG fuel system, including the cylinders, be conducted every three years or 36,000 miles. The inspections must be performed by qualified CNG fuel system inspectors, and in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

Well-trained CNG fuel system inspectors know how to detect physical damage, loose brackets or deterioration of the external surface of the cylinder that may compromise the continued safe operation of a CNG vehicle.

The best approach for a fleet owner is to have in-house maintenance technicians trained to do these inspections.
