New Chief Collet Kit assists with measuring collision-damaged aluminum vehicles

June 18, 2014
The kit comes included in the Ford 2015 F-150 collision repair program.

Chief Automotive Technologies introduces a patent-pending collet style target attachment kit to enable shops using the Chief LaserLock Live Mapping system to accurately measure any vehicle, regardless of material type. The Collet Style Target Attachment Set for Non-Ferrous Vehicle Openings is included in the Ford 2015 F-150 Collision Repair Program (No. 128-540-200). It is also available as an option on any Chief LaserLock system order.

“The new aluminum collet kit takes the place of our standard magnetic or snap-in hole attachments when working on vehicles with aluminum frames or bodies,” says Lee Daugherty, global data product manager for Chief parent company Vehicle Service Group (VSG). “Magnets don’t work with aluminum, and the snap-in attachments are equipped with steel fingers. Any steel coming in contact with aluminum can cause corrosion, so shops need an option for aluminum repairs. The new collet attachments work seamlessly with Chief targets and make the LaserLock live mapping system even more versatile.”

The 18-piece kit includes three sizes of self-centering aluminum expanding collet attachments to fit reference holes ranging from 10 to 44 millimeters. The set comes with a dedicated foam tray that fits neatly in the new LaserLock cabinet, keeping the workspace clean and organized. The kit can also be used on carbon fiber or steel vehicles.
