Complaint
The customer states the engine stalls when turning.
Cause
The technician confirmed the customer’s complaint and found the engine stalled when turning. He then performed a visual inspection of the ignition system and found no obvious faults. The technician connected a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pressure test port and found the fuel pressure dropped off when turning a corner, which caused the engine to stall. Using a multi-meter, he backprobed the fuel pump voltage feed and ground circuits and performed a road test. He also performed multiple turns, monitored the multi-meter and found the fuel pump voltage feed and ground were present at all times. The technician removed the fuel pump and used fused jumper wires to connect the fuel pump to external power and ground sources. Then, he pushed sideways on the fuel pump and found the fuel pump stopped running intermittently. The results of these tests verified the fuel pump was faulty.
Correction
After the technician replaced the fuel pump and verified the vehicle operated properly, the customer’s concern did not return.
