Autologic Fix: Air bag warning symbol illuminated on the instrument panel

Feb. 8, 2016
A number of causes could lead to this issue.

Brand: Renault

Models: Megane and Scenic

Symptom: Air bag warning symbol is illuminated on the vehicle's instrument panel.

Cause: Various

Fix:

1. Carry out fault check in airbag ECU using the AssistPlus.

2. If fault codes D072 or D071 are present, carry out the following steps:

  • Lock the air bag using the AssistPlus and disconnect.
  • Turn off the ignition and wait one minute before conducting any operations on the system.
  • Remove the driver’s air bag and check the connections to driver’s 1 and 2 air bags.
  • If correct, check the clock spring connector for poor connection.
  • Connect the ignition module ‘dummies’ to air bag connections. If the faults become stored, then consider replacement of the driver’s air bag.
  • If faults are still present, check the connection at air bag ECU and test wiring between clock spring and air bag ECU.
  • Repair and replace wiring as necessary.
  • If the wiring is correct, consider replacement of the air bag clock spring.
  • Once repairs are completed, unlock the air bag ECU and clear all faults.
  • Test the system to ensure correct operation.
