Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division honored with Smart Solution Spotlight Award

The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) has recognized the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) for the organization's leadership in helping modernize Maryland's transportation infrastructure to improve safety and efficiency by deploying the Drivewyze commercial vehicle inspection pre-clearance program.

ITS America (www.itsa.org) is the nation's largest organization dedicated to advancing the research, development and deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve the nation's surface transportation network.

Drivewyze is an innovative technology service provider to the transportation industry (www.drivewyze.com).

"ITS America is excited to honor the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division for its use of vehicle-to-infrastructure communications technology to provide a convenient, safe and secure bypass solution for motor carriers on our nation's roadways," said Tom Kern, executive vice president of ITS America. "The Drivewyze PreClear service showcases how public-private partnerships are utilizing intelligent transportation systems to cost-effectively modernize our transportation infrastructure."

Kern presented the CVED with ITS America's Smart Solution Spotlight Award during a live demonstration at the West Friendship Weigh Station in Howard County Maryland on Monday. He was joined at the event by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Anne Ferro, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Executive Director Stephen Keppler and Drivewyze President Brian Heath.

ITS America's Smart Solution Spotlight award honors companies and organizations for their successful use of innovative technologies to create a safer, cleaner, more efficient and sustainable transportation system.

Transportation safety leader

Captain Norman Dofflemyer, Commander of the Maryland State Police CVED, was presented with the ITS America Smart Solution Spotlight award in recognition of the CVED's partnership with Drivewyze to utilize smart telematics technologies that offer cost savings and safety benefits of weigh station bypass programs to local and intrastate motor carriers.

"We are proud of the success of our partners at the Maryland State Police Department and congratulate the organization on its Smart Solution Spotlight Award from the ITS America," said Heath. "The state is a true leader in transportation safety and it's gratifying to see them leverage innovation and technology to the benefit of motorists and the trucking industry.

"They're helping the nation modernize its safety infrastructure, and paving the way for future vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and e-Inspections."

Drivewyze PreClear is the first subscription bypass service to offer the proven savings and safety benefits of weigh station bypass programs to local and intrastate motor carriers, as well as expanded bypass opportunities to interstate operators traveling in the Drivewyze service area, said Heath.

Unlike the other bypass programs that require dedicated transponders in every truck, Drivewyze PreClear service works through a hands-free application that is pre-installed on in-truck devices or downloaded onto a smartphone or tablet to deliver a convenient, safe and secure automated bypass solution. Drivewyze PreClear can be accessed on iPhone, Android and Blackberry platforms.
